How to turn up the volume on your brand
Following decades of low employee turnover, NAB research shows that one in five Australians have changed jobs within the last year and almost a quarter are considering leaving their current place of employment. Key reasons for moving on include lack of personal fulfillment, purpose or meaning, career limitations, mental health concerns and poor pay.
Clearly, corporate culture is playing an increasingly important role in decision making for both current and potential employees. Given the high cost of recruitment, this is a critical consideration for employers. The Work Institute estimates that, when you factor expenses such as training, materials and orientation into the recruitment process, it costs as much as 33 per cent of a worker's annual salary to replace them.
So how can you make the right people understand how your culture aligns with their vision, ethos, values and beliefs?
Spreading the word
Everyone who works for you is a potential ambassador for your brand.
Gallup found that 71 per cent of workers use referrals from current employees to learn about job opportunities. Glassdoor, one of the world’s largest job sites, has a mission is “to help people everywhere find a job and company they love” and posts anonymous online reviews from employees. A report by UK recruitment company Robert Walters states that 69 per cent of candidates read media articles about company culture, 61 per cent use online employer review sites and 46 per cent talk to suppliers or partners.
Attracting and retaining staff could be as simple as making sure your employees are all primed to speak honestly and from the heart about your organisation, its culture and why they love their job.
Nurturing visibility
A culture of visibility helps you to do much more than build your ideal team. When your people feel heard and valued for their expertise, they’re more productive, engaged and satisfied.
